E3 2009
First time since E3 2006, the doors were open to the public again.
And it was a good time to because all 3 Hardware developers had some new stuff to show.
With Microsoft and Sony revealing their XBox360 Natel and PS3 Camera with remotes that enable them to have far more greater interaction with Videogames since the Nintendo's Wii. While the Nintendo Wii has got their Wii Motion Plus to stay in front of their High Definition competition.
It seems when the Natel and the PS3 Camera come into the market, things might get really interesting.
There is also the PSP Go that seems to try and take on both the iPhone and also the Nintendo DSi all at the same time.
But in the end, what good is this new technology all about if there are no games to go with them?
(also note I am a gamer who has got all 3 consoles and soon to have all 2 handheld platforms)
Nintendo seems to have the best when it comes to games connecting well with the new technology with Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit 2 Plus going to take advantage of not only the Wii Motion Plus but also the Wii Ballance Board for the Fit series.
There are games available for the Ballance Board and some 3rd party games for the Wii have been in development for the Wii's Motion Plus to add more motion control than the original Wii setup.
So in the end, Microsoft and Sony need to get their 3rd party developers making games for their consoles to try and attract that market that wants motion sencing in their games, or else it would be just like Virtual Reality and Multimedia gaming fads of the 90's. Back then those ideas were good technology, but lousy games.
These days with the implementation of motion control and even moving with the camera, all I can say is that there better be some great games that can spark some imagination into developers to make more games and people to buy those games in the first place.
High Definition has been something Nintendo has done without with the Wii and the DS. But they can't rely on luck going their way too.
That is why some of their games are looking at attracting more of a gaming market with many different people.
Nintendo see people fitting 3 different groups.
Those who game.
Those who might game in the future
and those who won't game at all.
You can't do anything about those who don't want to game at all.
And you have already got those who do game, some people game more than others.
And that is why Nintendo wants to aim at trying to attract people who might game in the future for their expanded audience.
That has been their plan ever since the Nintendo DS.
Some of the games I have had an interest in, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid: Other M, Mario and Luigi RPG: Bowser's inner story, Golden Sun DS, Final Fantasy Crystal Bearers on the Wii + FF XIII and XIII verses on the PS3.
So far, I only look at any Japanese games that are platformers, RPGs and even hoping for some Visual Novels. Even though Ubisoft had some great Visual Novels but the only thing is that they were not of the Japanese Anime/Manga type and they never had anything to do with dating girls or anything.
Microsoft is looking at attracting more of the Western gamers while people like myself may have nothing left after the likes of Tales of Vespieria comes out on the XBox360. There was no sign of RARE anywhere at all.
Sony was more into their games that appeal to the hard core gamers but I don't see them appealing to the Jap RPG crowd other than Final Fantasy XIII games and even they announced Final Fantasy XIV online. Sadly my internet is slow and I can't play online games.
Perhaps the only thing I found annoying about E3 2009 is that even though Nintendo said that they are trying to appeal to everyone, they have always forgotten the people who love Japanese Visual Novels that allow you to date girls/boys and fall in love with someone.
Also with only a slight hint for a new Zelda game for the Wii, also with no sign of their lesser known Core games like Donkey Kong, Kirby, Star Fox or anything else for the Wii it seems that Nintendo thinks their core audience is all about Mario/Zelda/Metroid/Pokemon and nothing else.
Well, it is hard to please everyone.
Lets see what E3 2010 is going to be.
